Breaking News - Wilson get Minardi seat

Britain's Justin Wilson is set to enter the world of Formula One when he is announced as a driver for minnows Minardi on Tuesday. The 23-year-old from Sheffield, northern England, is believed to have secured some 2 million pounds (3.18 million dollars) worth of personal sponsorship. His elevation to Grand Prix status sees him join fellow Britons David Coulthard and Jenson Button as a Formula One driver.

Wilson, who stands 6ft 3in tall, has been linked with Minardi for several weeks after completing a seat-fitting in Italy last month. He missed out on a drive with Minardi last year because he could not fit inside the cockpit. But he has now convinced Minardi bosses he can safely get into the 2003 car and he will be formally presented as the team's first driver for next season at a press conference in a hotel near Heathrow Airport on Tuesday.

Wilson, who in 2001 became the first Briton to win the F3000 title, has been competing in a junior formula in Brazil this year where he came second. He has also been linked to Minardi's Formula One rivals Jordan and was set for a pre-Christmas CART test in the United States with the Newman-Haas team. But that seems set to be abandoned provided there are no last-minute hitches with his Formula One move.
